Alpha 2 of Trellis Desk 2.0 is now available.

Please be aware that this is an unsupported early alpha release. The software is expected to have bugs and is not ready for live / production use. Please continue to use the stable v1.0.4 release in your production environments.

    Download Alpha 2 here.

    • There is currently no upgrade path from Trellis Desk 1.0 or Trellis Desk 2.0 Alpha 1. An upgrade path will be available in future releases. Do not try accessing the Upgrade Center. It will not work.
    • Many areas are to-be-completed (such as ACP Look & Feel, Maintenance, Backup, Logs, Plugins, Modules, etc).
    • Email piping / POP3, and attachments are not yet available.
    • Error reports / usage statistics may be submitted to ACCORD5.
    • No official customer support is offered for this release.

Some notable changes from Alpha 1 include:

    • User registration is available from the user-side.
    • Sub groups are supported.
    • Email notifications are available.
    • Permissions and settings are pre-populated.
    • Anti-spam support (Akismet, PhpCaptcha, reCAPTCHA).
    • Knowledge base category permissions.
    • Email templates management.
    • "Hide" staff names from user.
    • "Permanently" close a ticket (does not allow user to reopen).
    • Increased user / staff management security.
    • Restructured data files.

This release is intended for testing and as a preview of Trellis Desk 2.0. If you have any suggestions, please submit them via the Trac.

For continued updates on Trellis Desk 2 development, please keep an eye on the company blog and Twitter account. This post may be periodically updated with additional information on Alpha 2.

Now that Alpha 2 has been released, we are ready to begin testing. As expected, many bugs are likely to pop up. If you find a possible bug, please report it to our Trac after making sure that you are not reporting a duplicate. Describe the bug in as best detail as you can and explain the steps to reproduce if possible.

Do not report a bug for the following ares. These areas are incomplete and will be tested in future releases. This list may be updated so always check it before submitting a bug.

    • ACP > Look & Feel > Skin Manager
    • ACP > Look & Feel > Language Manager
    • ACP > Tools & Settings > Maintenance
    • ACP > Tools & Settings > Backups
    • ACP > Tools & Settings > Log Center
    • ACP In-line Support and Tooltips
    • Install Center > Advanced
    • Upgrade Center

    Thanks and happy testing. :)

Will the 2.0 still require mysql strict mode to be off?

Anyway, alpha looks really nice :)

P.S. maybe its a little late for this, but did u consider using some ORM (like Doctrine) so Trellis can work with other DB except MySQL?

    Eugen,

I believe you will need to still turn off MySQL strict mode.

We are working on making Trellis Desk compatible with systems that have strict mode enabled. And we also plan on supporting other databases in the future.

Well I think most product releases new version every 6 months to 1 year. So you would expect new version to be release around once a year plus serveral security updates. This involves a lot of programming so it will take as long as it needs to. Don't expect once a month though. Imagine it takes about a day for a person to design a logo so there are lots of work involve.

But I really really really like to see it has a hosting billing plugin or option in the future for Trellis. This will make it a complete system :)

I use Trellis Desk for a slightly different application than what it was designed for. I work at for a magazine and we use it for submitting ads and articles to the art department. On the submission, we sometimes have to upload attachments. Will 2.0 have a status bar showing progress of the upload? At times we have to send decent size files, no larger than 30 mb.
Also, will there be multiple file upload fields? Just one makes it challenging for individuals that do not know how to create a folder and zip it. There are more than you think!

    Thanks

Yup, 2.0 will feature a rich Flash uploader that will give a progress bar. You will also be able to attach multiple files. Users who don't have Flash can switch to the "simple" uploader as well.

Can I get a small hint? I was about to get 1.0.4 configured... Should I wait for 2.0 or will it be a while yet - Need something soon and was wondering if it would be worth it to put the effort into the current stable build or wait for a 2.0 final.

Again, we aren't releasing any ETA. But Alpha 3 should be out pretty soon, then we will hit Betas and finally RCs. The last few Betas and the RCs could be used for production use at your own risk.

    Great Code! Elegant and Functional!
Anyways, here are some thoughts for 2.0:
1.) Allow a Ticket Lookup without having to login. Allowing Guests to only have to type in their Ticket ID. Reason: We are a commercial printer, and we send out PDF Artwork for people to look at and approve. Sometimes, the person we are sending the PDF to is not the person who needs to approve it, and therefore would need to forward the ticket to someone else to view and approve (reply).
2.) Allow anyone to submit a ticket without having to login.
3.) Separate Admin/Staff Login Page. In order to Login as Staff it is currently a two step login process.
4.) On Admin/Staff Page, allow functionality for the Admin to Hide Panel Criteria for Staff Users. Explaination: We have staff that aren't as savvy as others, and they can get easily confused with all of the information that is displayed on the Staff Admin Section. For the most part, we would prefer to keep it so that all they can see is the tickets that they are responsible for right after they login, and only see those.
5.) Stealing from the ideas behind Eticket - On the "Manage Tickets" page, would be nice to have two separate Groups of tickets, "Waiting to be Answered" and "Answered". Really helps to know which tickets you've handled and which ones you haven't.
6.) Admin/Staff Create Support Ticket on Behalf of Client. Would be nice to be able to do this from the Admin/Staff panel, and have the option to automatically set the Status to "Answered" instead of the default "Waiting to be Answered". Reason: we create support tickets for our clients all of the time to inform them about an issue. Since we are creating the ticket, we are already working on the ticket, doesn't make sense to create a ticket, then update the ticket again, thereby sending two notifications to the client instead of one.
7.) In addition to the Staff/Admin Create Ticket - looking at OSTicket, they have a great AJAX feature that does a DB lookup on the email address of the users table while you are typing and automagically fills out the rest of the user information for the user you are creating the ticket for. It helps when you are a staff member and you have to create multiple tickets for one client, and makes sure that you don't type in the wrong email address.
8.) Multiple Attachments a must. This would work great for us when we are sending PDF's to clients for approval.

Hope this is helpful, let me know if you have questions. ;~) max
