Alpha 1 of our next major Trellis Desk release, version 2.0, is now available.

Please be aware that this is an unsupported early alpha release. The software is expected to have bugs and is not ready for live / production use. Please continue to use the stable v1.0.3 release in your production environments.

Download Alpha 1 here.
- There is currently no upgrade path from Trellis Desk v1.0. An upgrade path will be available in future releases.
- Many areas are to-be-completed (such as ACP Look & Feel, Maintenance, Backup, Logs, Plugins, Modules, etc).
- User registration is not available from the client-side. If you would like to create new users, please do so through the ACP.
- Sub groups are not supported.
- Email notifications, email piping / POP3, and attachments are not yet available.
- Permissions and settings are not pre-populated.
- Error reports / usage statistics may be submitted to ACCORD5.
- No official customer support is offered for this release.
This release is intended for testing and as a preview of Trellis Desk 2.0. If you have any suggestions, please submit them via the Trac.

For continued updates on Trellis Desk 2 development, please keep an eye on the company blog and Twitter account. This post may be periodically updated with additional information on Alpha 1.

May I ask if there will be an upgrade route for Alpha to final release with respect to version 2.0.

Yes, the next Alpha release will have an upgrade path from Alpha 1 and possibly from Trellis Desk v1.

This is great. I can tell so far that it is going to be a great benefit for me. You did some custom modifications for me on the old version. Will they still be in tact or will they have to be done again. Mainly they were listing who the ticket was assigned to both in the admin and user ends.

I noticed that the attachment upload fields were not there. I assume it is due to the fact of being an Alpha. Will the ticket status automatically change from open to in progress when the ticket is assigned? I does not seem to be working or I am missing something.

Because this is an alpha release, many features are unavailable / missing; even features from v1. By the time v2 hits beta releases, the software will be almost feature-complete.

Attachments unavailable in this Alpha 1 release. Multiple attachments capabilities will be available in upcoming releases.

You will lose your modifications when upgrading, however, in Trellis Desk 2.0, you will be able to select which columns you want shown on your ticket lists. In fact, you can already do this in the ACP in Alpha 1. Just go to the My ACP Settings page.

The In Progress status will automatically change when a ticket is being viewed, not assigned (but I still don't think it works in Alpha 1 yet). However, automatically changing the status when assigned is a good suggestion that I will consider.

hi
i was testing if upgrade from 1.0.2 to 2.0 Alpha is working (in my XAMPP testing enviroment ofcourse)
Looks like there is an problem with upgrading.

First I previously installed 1.0.2 properly. I create some tickets. Loggen in to ACP and so on. All working fine.

Then i followed the steps in the upgrade guide in the dowload pack from 2.0Alpha ...keep my original config.php and so on....

Now i point to http://mysite.com/upgrade Ok, here still all fine.

Now i login to the upgrade center and press the upgrade button.....

In MySql there is really no Table called "trellis.td_users". I guess this is the problem?

Hello uscher,

As mentioned above, there is no upgrade path from Trellis Desk v1.0 to v2.0...

Yeah, i read this. Thats why i was using v1.0.2 for testing.
But enyway, we are using TD since 1 year now. We like to thank you for this really great software. And of course all the time you spend to make it up to v2.

Is there an estimate when version 2.0 will be released (At least a semi-stable beta release)? I have been given the task at my company to investigate ticket management systems and this seem to be a great option.

csalle01 I can say that we are using Trellis Desk and coming from an extensive Service Management background it is worth using and is certainly the best free and easiest system to use - sure this isnt built on an ITIL foundation but really it how you use the system that counts.

We are looking forward to V2 as there are a number of feature limitations that presently we are having to work around by internal process but it doesn't change the fact this is by far a great product and would vouch for this being your #1 choice.

I am really impressed with Trellis Desk Helpdesk! Thank you for designing such a beautiful coding.
However, i would like to ask something..
--> How to add another function called "Date Completed" in the Ticket Overview page? which this function wi;;m display the date of task completion.

Dear DJ,

As we use Trellis Desk extensively one thing we struggle with is reporting, we are unable to report on the time spent on a ticket during a given period of time.

It would be great to have a action time field in each ticket reply, this would then be added to the total time of the ticket. We frequently are queried on how much support was provided in a month to a client.

It would prove an invaluable addition to an already great product, do you envisage that this would make it into the feature set of V2?

This is great.. How about adding Features similar to RT from bestpractical. Dashboard with SLA Reports ? ..
Installing this is breeze.. I tried more than 4 hours to install RT. Appreciate your work on this product.. With better commitments i am seeing good potential for this product.

Do you have any specifics from Request Tracker? SLA is something that we definitely will work on. However, I'm not sure it will make it into the 2.0 release.

Is there any current/future way of not requiring a department? Basically, the company I work for has about 200 users that 2 IT folk support (me included). So we have no need for Departments (right now atleast). It would be great if there were an option for a "default" department. That way, the user never sees the "Choose Department" page...it would just automatically assign it to the default department (i.e. Support).

This is really the only thing that held us back from using TrellisDesk 1.0.3. Our users (the execs really) didn't like having the extra button clicks.

@Dan: Good point. I'll consider that for TD2. Either way, it would only require a small modification to "skip" the first step where you select a department.

@quietas: We don't have any sort of official list yet. Honestly, the list is so big I can't remember everything. I'll try to whip something up soon. There is always the Trac you can look at, but there are many new features that have been implemented that do not appear in the Trac.
